NDIS Navigator– Supporting Parents and Carers at Niddrie Autistic School

As the NDIS Navigator for Niddrie Autistic School, my role continues to be one of providing essential guidance and support to parents and carers, helping you navigate the complexities of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

While the NDIS has been in place for several years, many parents and carers still face challenges in understanding the ins and outs of funding, the process for reviews of NDIS plans, plan management, and the latest legislative changes. I’m here to help simplify those processes and ensure that families have the support they need to make informed decisions about their child’s disability support.

While working at Niddrie Autistic School, I’ve been able to assist many families in various ways, including:

  • Explaining Funds Management: Helping parents understand how to manage the funding in their child’s NDIS plan and make sure it’s used effectively.
  • Staying Up to Date with Legislative Changes: Keeping families informed about the most recent updates to NDIS policies and how they apply to our children and their families.
  • Preparation for Plan Reviews: Assisting with the review process by ensuring that the evidence presented meets NDIS criteria.
  • Writing Letters of Support: Providing letters of support and helping with the justification of claims to Plan managers, such as for the repair of NDIS-funded devices like iPads.
  • Support to represent requests for funding at the Australian Appeals Tribunal (AAT)

Additionally, I have had the pleasure of connecting with many parents and carers at the Parent Group that meets monthly. These sessions have been invaluable in creating a space for families to connect, share resources, and discuss their children’s development. These meetings have also provided opportunities for parents and carers to meet with specialists, including occupational therapists and speech therapists, who provide further insights and support.

I’m truly excited to continue working alongside you all in 2025, providing the tools, information, and support needed to help your children succeed. If you ever require assistance or have questions about anything NDIS, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I work at school on Thursdays and Fridays and can be reached via email catherine.ofarrell@education.vic.gov.au

Looking forward to another year of collaboration!
